Why buy a mechanical Russian watch?

Vostok are one of my favourite watch brands. I'm just amazed that they can produce such stylish and substantial watches, with their intricate self winding mechanical movement, for such a low price. How can they do it? And for how much longer? Surely it would be cheaper to whack in a cheap quartz movement? It will probably happen one day, but until then anyone who appreciates the feel of a solid, stylish, quality automatic watch has the opportunity to pick up the most amazing bargain.

Vostok produce several ranges of watches, including a Military line with military symbols or equipment depicted on the face, but I most like their Century Time range.

Vostok watches are made in Chistopol in Tatarstan.

Here are some of the Century Time range. Click on them to enlarge.
