Why buy a mechanical Russian watch?

Buying over the Internet

I've only ordered from 3 places on the Internet.

Although it costs more in postage, so far I have felt better ordering things within the same country. So when I wanted to order from Russia2All, I had my brother in the U.S. order them, check them out, then send them on to me in Australia. I can report that on all three occasions the watches arrived within a few days, were in good condition and were the same as ordered. On occasions where we had a problem (the watch we wanted was out of stock) they notified us straight away, and were courteous and helpful in sorting everything out.
They had the best prices and a wide range (and for my tastes, the best range). That was before they were closing down. Now they have fantastic prices but an ever decreasing range.

On 22.November.2002 I ordered 2 watches from www.russianwatchesonline.com in Novosibirsk, Siberia. I did this despite this strange picture with a threatening caption which was on a page called 'How to Order'!
I was given three options for delivery. DHL and another one were more than $90 - which would double the cost of my order! So I chose 'Post' for $10. There was no indication whether it was air or sea mail.

They took until 13.December.2002 to travel from Siberia to me in Australia. About 3 weeks - fairly reasonable, I thought - in fact, pretty good considering it's near Christmas. However, one of the watches was different to what I'd ordered. Similar, but different. I ordered the one on the left below, but received the one on the right. I'm guessing it was out of stock, because its picture disappeared from their website just after I'd ordered.
I wrote to them and got a reply the next business day. They offered me my money back - or 50% off another purchase.

I ordered a Luch calendar watch from Russian Souvenirs International (in Moscow. With a link to a smaller sister site in Virginia, U.S.A.). I placed the order on 4.December.2002, and it arrived 19.December.2002. 15 days (or 11 working days). Pretty good, especially considering it's Christmas time.

I have no experience buying from the following places, so I can't tell you anything about their reliability, timeliness, quality or friendliness.

russia4u (in the U.K.).

rusgoods (in Moscow). These people have sometimes sent spam mail (I did a search in Google and came across some in a discussion group) - but that doesn't necessarily mean that they don't do good deals on watches.
